PUT ON AND SWIM SAFELY

How to put on

  1. Sit at the edge of the pool.
  2. Slide the black monofin from the bottom into the opening of the mermaid tail. Gently pull the tip of the tail over the tip of the monofin. Do the same with the other tip.
  3. Pull the top of the mermaid tail up over the two foot openings of the monofin.
  4. Make sure to wet the entire monofin and your feet in the pool; this will make it much easier to slide your feet in afterward.
  5. Put your feet into the monofin. Putting it on for the first time can be challenging, especially for shoe size 37. The fin will mold to your foot, which is why it’s best for each child to always use their own fin.
  6. Pull the tail up to your knees, then get into the water and pull the tail up to your waist.
  7. To take it off, it’s best to do so in shallow water. This way, the mermaid tail will stay in good condition for a long time, as you won’t be scraping it against the stones outside the pool.

Safe Mermaid Swimming

Mermaid swimming requires technique and strength. It is similar to the butterfly stroke. We recommend all beginners take a few fun mermaid swimming lessons. Many Sportfondsen and Optisport pools offer these lessons.

In collaboration with the NVWA - the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority - we have established the following rules to ensure your child swims safely like a mermaid:

  • A mermaid tail is only suitable for people with at least swimming diplomas A and B.
  • Swimming with a mermaid tail should always be supervised.
  • Practice putting on and taking off the mermaid tail in shallow water.
  • Practice swimming with the mermaid tail in shallow water.
  • Do not swim in currents or water with waves.

How to Properly Care for Your Mermaid Tail

Do:

  • Rinse your tail with lukewarm water after swimming.
  • Leave the monofin inside the tail.
  • Hang your tail up so it can drain and dry.

Don’t:

  • Don’t jump with the tail over stone tiles or any rough surfaces, as this can cause holes in the tail.
  • Don’t use the tail in the sea, a hot tub, or a jacuzzi.
  • Don’t wash it in the washing machine.
